Bauhaus, a word that always appears on papers and magazines is a term familiar to people all around the world. However, you might not know that it was a name of an architectural school, but thought it meant a style or a trend. But what kind of meaning did it really bear? What did it stand for? What made this school that existed only 11 years is still a hot issue? You can find your answers in Redtory’s exhibition: “The Bauhous”.
On the afternoon of Nov 11th, 2010, “The Bauhaus” exhibition opening ceremony was held at Redtory C1. The ceremony was simple and formal. Since 2010 was the 91st anniversary of Bauhaus, Redtory hosted “The Bauhaus” to celebrate this architectural legend. Professor Wang Shouzhi was invited to give a lecture about the topic.
In the opening ceremony, Alice, Redtory’s chief director, said that this exhibition was to pay respect to innovation, creativity and thought. “Let us create a new guild of craftsmen, without the class distinctions that raise an arrogant barrier between craftsman and artist. Together let us conceive and create the new building of the future, which will embrace architecture and sculpture and painting in one unity and which will rise one day toward heaven from the hands of a million workers, like the crystal symbol of a new faith.” Alice quoted Walter Gropius’ words in Bauhaus Declaration to be the summary, showing that Redtory will inherit the spirit of Bauhaus and spare no efforts to provide a new perfect place for contemporary artists to create works of art.
Redtory had invited Ms. Feng Damei, wife of Mr. Wang Shouzhi, and Qi Shengli, General Director from Guangazhou Newsdays Interior Design & Construction Corporation to give the opening speech. We also had great honor to have Danish Consul General in Guangzhou, wife of the Swiss Consul General in Guangzhou, Vice- Consul General of Russia in Guangzhou, officials from Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou, Zhao Honghong Executive Vice-President of Faculty of Architecture of South China University of Technology. Also presented were a number of Bauhaus fans.
